Dr. Jeffrey S.D. Sonson, DDS
Dr. Sonson has been in the dental field since 1997, graduating from Heidelberg College and the University of Pacific Dental School. A Hawaii-native, he opened his own practice in the heart of Kailua on the island of Oahu in 2001. He is dedicated to offering exceptional service and care to his patients through continuous education and the use of state-of-the-art dental technology.

Dr. Sonson is an active member of the Prestigious Terry Tanaka Prosthetic Study Club, the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, the Hawaii Dental Association and the Honolulu County Dental Society and treasurer for the Hawaii Dental Association Foundation. Specializing in cosmetic bleaching, Invisalign® Invisible Braces, dental implants and more, Dr. Sonson is eager to transform beautiful smiles.  In his free time he enjoys golf, surfing and hot yoga.

Dr. Ivan Colón, dental professional in Kailua, HI

Dr. Ivan Colón, DDS

Dr. Colón graduated from Southern Adventist University with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. He then attended Loma Linda University School of Dentistry where he earned his DDS. degree. Dr. Colón’s family – originally from New York and Massachusetts – has lived in Africa, Russia, France, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Michigan. In 2013, Dr. Colón joined the Kailua Dental Care family after he and his wife, a physician assistant, decided to make the move to Hawaii and start a family in Kailua. Prior to moving to the islands, Dr. Colón was a clinical instructor in fixed prosthodontics at LLUSD.


He is a member and Secretrary of the Honolulu County Dental Society, and a member of the Hawaii Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. In his free time he enjoys hiking, surfing, and landscape photography.

Dr. Erik Dunkelberger, dental professional in Kailua, HI
Dr. Erik Dunkelberger, DDS 
Dr. Erik Dunkelberger joined the Kailua Dental Care team in 2017. Originally from rural central Pennsylvania, he was inspired to pursue dentistry by his father, a dedicated and compassionate pediatric dentist.

He earned his BS from the University of Maryland in College Park, MD, followed by a Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. After graduation, Dr. Dunkelberger served 4 years in the US Navy as a dental officer providing dentistry for sailors and marines, including those at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe.

Dr. Dunkelberger has a particular interest in Esthetic crown and bridge dentistry, providing quick and painless extractions, and perfecting smiles with Invisalign Clear Aligners.

Dr. Dunkelberger is a member of various professional organizations such as the American Academy of Facial Esthetics and the American Academy of Clear Aligners.

While outside of the dental office, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two young daughters.  He is also an enthusiast of wind and water sports.  As such, Dr. Dunkelberger loves and respects Hawaii, its ocean, and its people and this is reflected in the thoughtful, personalized care he provides each patient.
Dr. Spencer Schiappa, dental professional in Kailua, HI

Dr. Spencer Schiappa, DDS 

Dr. Schiappa was born and raised on Long Island, New York, and attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. Determined to leave cold weather behind for good, he moved to Oahu in 2022 and has been serving the great people of Hawaii since. When he's not practicing dentistry, Dr. Schiappa enjoys hiking, physical fitness, and photography. He loves the outdoors and considers himself extremely lucky to be able to call Hawaii home.

Dr. Anthony Castro, DDS

Dr. Castro earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry. He completed a one-year General Practice Residency at the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle, where he received advanced hospital-based training caring for patients with complex medical needs and providing comprehensive dental care.


Dr. Castro is dedicated to patient-centered dentistry and believes that clear communication and education are key to building trust and long-term oral health. He enjoys getting to know his patients, creating personalized treatment plans that focus on comfort, function, and lasting results, and is proud to be bilingual in both English and Spanish.


Outside the office, Dr. Castro enjoys spending time with his wife, Samantha, a military dentist, and their 2-year-old golden dachshund, Peanut. He looks forward to meeting and serving the Kailua community.
